We have been really busy over the last few weekends setting up my husbands new business Sydney Physio Clinic in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, that having time to cook lately has been tough. I knew we were in for a big day Saturday, so I ordered dinner online from Menulog – No.1 for Online Takeaway on the Friday evening.

With over 80 restaurants in Coogee alone on Menulog, there is great selection it was tough choosing a Coogee Take-Away Restaurant.

The Menulog cuisine we choose was one not yet rated on Menulog as it’s a new local restaurant in Coogee Beach. We decided to give it a try as we love a good Indian Take-Away Restaurant meal.

I cook a lot of Indian meals at home as it’s one of my favorite cuisines. I even make the paneer myself from scratch but it’s never quite the same as from an authentic local Indian restaurant.

The Menulog Online Experience:

The website is very easy to navigate and use. I selected the Coogee area getting over 80 restaurants. It’s great that you can define your search by cuisine or by specials. I knew I was after Indian… yes, pregnancy craving I guess. Making it easier by choosing a local restaurant called ‘The Clove Indian Restaurant’. One I hadn’t tried or heard of before as it is new. Minimum order was $35 for free delivery.

The way Menulog menu is displayed with left hand navigation from entrees to desserts is great and so easy. I chose my meal in minutes and did the pre-order the day before for Saturday night at 6pm.

I received a phone message on Saturday afternoon from Menulog saying my order was pending. I was busy at the time and called back half hour later. During this time I also received an email saying my order was on hold. mmm strange.

I called them up to find out what was going and they said we need to confirm you want your delivery tonight. Not sure why they would put my order on hold, if I booked it a day in advance cause I’m busy at a set time you would think it was all fine. Anyway it was sorted out immediately on the phone.

The Restaurant:

The Clove Indian Restaurant on Menulog has a large selection of different sorts of dishes to your average Indian restaurant which drew me to choosing them. I had a quick look at the website and it looked good. I wanted to review a restaurant I hadn’t tried before and also one that needed honest reviews.

As the meal was so good I would have given the Clove Indian Restaurant 5 stars, only that there was a glitch with the customer service. The lovely delivery guy arrived 10 minutes early which was great as we were starving after a busy day. As soon as we opened the door he said he had forgotten the mango ice cream we had ordered… in my head I was thinking no, I had a major cravings for that ice cream and it was going to be our 3 year old daughters treat for being so good during the day. (She generally doesn’t get food treats in our house but we promised her ice cream earlier in the day …dam). Anyway he was lovely about it and apologized and said he was coming back this way for other deliveries and would drop it off then and that was fine. We also soon realised the tamarind sauce for the samosas (Vege Singara) never showed up either.

Hours went by…. the delivery guy never showed up nor did we get a phone call from the restaurant apologizing. Minus a Star! Such a shame because the food was fantastic. We would still order from them again though as there are not many good local Indian restaurants in our area, we have tried most of them in the Bondi/Bondi Junction/Randwick and Coogee area.

My lovely husband then went to coles that night and got us yummy chocolate & macadamia ice cream. What a good man!

The Meal:

So we ordered the following:

Hot Paneer Masala:
Strips of paneer sautéed with julienne cut capsicum, onion, spices and finished with fresh tomatoes and coriander
Review: This dish was absolutely delicious! The sauce was really good and the paneer was fresh and lots of it which I love. The spice was perfect, I like it hot and they made it a mild hot, which was great for both of us to eat. Highly recommend this dish.

Sambhar:
a very popular vegetarian dish from South India, lentils and vegetables cooked together with sambhar masala and garnished with fresh coriander leaves, full of flavour
Review: Very tasty dish with a very nice flavour. Would recommend this dish and would have it again.

Garlic Naan:
garlic naan bread
Review: My first thought was wow it’s yellow. It tasted good, not greasy like some places. Personally I felt it could have been improved with fresh garlic and a touch of herbs for colour.

Cheese Naan:
tasty cottage cheese naan bread
Review: This is nice for a cottage cheese naan, however I prefer a real cheesy naan that you can see the cheese when you pull it apart and super hot. But that’s just my personal taste.

Vege Singara:
a tasty mixture of potatoes, peas, cumin seed, spices and fresh herbs wrapped in a home made pastry and served with tamarind sauce
Review: These were really yummy, the spices were great. Unfortunately the sauce never arrived with our delivery.

Mango Kulfi:
Indian home made ice cream flavoured with mango
Review: This never showed up with our delivery, so can’t review it.

PS. We made our own papadums and rice, as Im not a big fan of rice but my husband likes it.

Overall we were very happy with the taste of the food and would get it again. I’m sure it was just an accident that they didn’t deliver the ice cream and sauce however a call would have been nice if they weren’t going to come back. You don’t mess with a pregnant woman’s ice cream cravings!
